ĊineXjenza: Coded Bias

18 October 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Date and Time
Tuesday 18th October 2022, 7pm

Unlike humans, computers haven’t had thousands of years of evolution that has shaped the way they think. By themselves, they are truly impartial and objective.

In context however, we see a situation that is shockingly different. Artificial intelligences that learn from human society also adopt flaws in human reasoning. MIT Media Lab researcher Joy Buolamwini tested a facial recognition software on an AI that had been trained with faces of white men. When Buolamwini, a person of colour, looked in the camera the AI did not recognise her — until she put a white mask on. ĊineXjenza is back for its 8th season, join us on October 18th, 7pm to watch the movie Coded Bias and have a discussion with experts Prof. Alexiei Dingli and Dr. Vanessa Camilleri.

ĊineXjenza is supported by the Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, run by the Malta Chamber of Scientists, in collaboration with Spazju Kreattiv.
