Dublin. 2020. Val Barber is a private detective. His work is mostly false insurance claims and extra-marital affairs, the bread and butter of detective agencies the world over. Used to keeping secrets of his own, Barber is well suited to his profession.

Barber’s latest client hires him to find her missing granddaughter, Sara. Barber’s initial investigations into her disappearance quickly darken. Long buried secrets start surfacing in unexpected ways. Before too long, Barber finds himself entangled with powerful men of shady morals determined to thwart his investigations. Matters are not helped by the re-emergence of an old lover and his unexpected interest in the mistress of one of his prime suspects. Barber’s unorthodox and increasingly chaotic personal life starts to unravel as his own secrets come back to haunt him forcing him to face some reckonings of his own. The imminent homecoming of his teenage daughter coincides with an escalating sense of threat as Barber’s enemies start to circle.
