MCAST ICA Festival

6 July 2023 - 30 July 2023

An annual showcase highlighting the emerging students of the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts

The 7th edition of the MCAST ICA Festival celebrates the creative achievements of talented students of eleven Bachelor of Arts (Honours) courses at the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts in Mosta. The festival offers a valuable platform for these students to exhibit their hard work and individual talents, gaining exposure among stakeholders in the creative industry and the local arts and design community.

Inspired by the chivalrous unrealistic ideals of Don Quixote, students embody the values of creativity, authenticity, and imagination, unlocking their inner potential. To achieve innovation, it is necessary to break free from conventional thinking and establish new ideals driven by the creativity and ingenuity of a new generation better suited to meet the challenges of the modern world. Taking risks, challenging established norms, and exploring new ideas and approaches can lead to advancements that benefit society.

Join us on this journey of creativity and discovery, and celebrate the artists of tomorrow who embrace their inner Don Quixote. Let’s work together to transform the world through unique and imaginative perspectives.

The Struggle

This choreography is part of Miguel Farrugia`s bachelor’s dissertation, ‘How Have Digital Dance Cultures Affected Audience Engagement with Concert Dance’ which explores whether concert dance has changed because of digital dance, and in what ways it did so. This choreography was inspired by the short dance videos on social media such as TikTok. These movements have then been adapted to fit a theatrical performance. The choreography consists of Hip Hop and street styles, such as Popping, House and Freestyle.

Creative Team:
Choreography – Miguel Farrugia
Performance – Miguel Farrugia
Light Design – Moritz Zavan Stoeckle
Music (and artist):
Inner Light – Elderbrook
Something – Martin Garrix

A Colourful Outlook on Costumes

The project is a lecture demonstration on how coloured lights can change the colours of a costume. Created costumes will be presented on mannequins whilst different coloured lighting effects are projected onto them. This will demonstrate how radically their colour scheme changes when a coloured light hit them. During the lecture demonstration, there will also be sections of a video presenting a choreography inspired by the relationship between coloured costumes and coloured lights.

Creative Team:
Lecture demonstration – Daniel Carabott
Costume Design – Daniel Carabott (Supervised by Maria Cutajar)
Lighting Design – Daniel Carabott (Supervised by Moritz Zavan Stoeckle)

After performance, there will be a Q&A session with Miguel Farrugia and Daniel Carabott. Moderated by Victor Jacono
