Microbes in Space: Exploring the microbiome from the lab to the stars.

10 December 2024 @ 7:00 pm

From Diagnosing Infections on Earth to Pioneering Experiments in Space, Ms. Christine Gatt is Redefining the Frontiers of Biomedical Science. During the talk, we will explore three groundbreaking areas in biomedical science that are shaping the future of healthcare and research.

Firstly by highlighting the often-overlooked yet crucial role of Biomedical Scientists in Bacteriology labs, where the accuracy of infection diagnosis depends on the precision of sample collection. The discussion will then shift to the microbiome of diabetic foot ulcers, offering insights into how cutting-edge molecular techniques are redefining our understanding of wound healing. Finally, the presentation will introduce Project Maleth—Malta’s pioneering biomedical experiment in space—where science meets the final frontier, showcasing the remarkable collaboration between space exploration and biomedical research.

The event is supported by Spazju Kreattiv, the University of Malta, and the Malta Chamber of Scientists.
