‘I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.’
Charlotte Brontë (Jane Eyre)

Creeping up to the two-hundred year mark, and Charlotte Brontë’s story of the radical, and free-spirited Jane is still as inspiring as ever. In this bold and dynamic production, first staged by Bristol Old Vic last year, director Sally Cookson re-imagines one woman’s fight for freedom and fulfilment.

From her beginnings as a destitute orphan, the spirited heroine faces life’s obstacles head-on, surviving poverty, injustice and the discovery of bitter betrayal before taking the ultimate decision to follow her heart.
