Experiments, installations and performances will transform Valletta through science and the arts as the month of September comes to a close. And this year, the Science in the City festival is themed around the most complex structure in the universe: our brain.

As part of the Science Theatre: Dementia series, the acclaimed Teatru Anon will perform I Am Still Here—a theatre piece celebrating one woman’s journey through life prior to the tiresome disease. Meanwhile, the second theatre production sees a family of three grapple with Alzheimer’s disease in Il-Masġar tal-Allat Siekta.

Film lovers can view Still Alice, a film on renowned linguistics professor Dr Alice Howland whose life, career and family take a toll as she is prematurely struck by the insufferable illness. The screening will also be followed by a discussion on Dementia by Professor Charles Scerri, continuing the CineXjenza series.

Knowledge and information sharing is at the heart of the festival, and thus, Malta Café Scientifique will bring its best and most fascinating talks held throughout last year.

Science in the City is also about reaching all kinds of audiences. Master puppeteer Sean Briffa in a joint collaboration with S-Cubed will run puppet shows called Inside Out and Marie Curie specifically designed for children to engage with the chemistry brewing between science and art. Not to mention the highly-popular Kids Dig Science workshops which will also feature in the Science in the City programme, themed on how our brains sense and process information.
