SongCraft 2025

SongCraft 2025
Spazju Kreattiv and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ have once again teamed up for the fifth edition of SongCraft, a professional development programme tailored for talented singer-songwriters aged 14 – 20.
This initiative offers participants the unique opportunity to be mentored by renowned local singer-songwriters as they develop their skills and create original compositions. The programme culminates in a live showcase at the Spazju Kreattiv theatre in July 2025, where participants will perform the songs they crafted alongside their mentors. (Please note: the event will be filmed and photographed).
Unlike competitive formats, SongCraft fosters collaboration and community among its participants. It is designed to provide a supportive space for young, emerging singer-songwriters who have already started creating their own music, helping them refine their craft and confidently share their work with an audience.
In addition to one-on-one mentorship, Spazju Kreattiv’s communications team will guide participants in promoting their music and building their careers, offering insights into reaching diverse audiences. Meanwhile, Aġenzija Żgħażagħ’s team will follow each participant’s journey closely, providing valuable support and guidance along the way.
This edition of SongCraft proudly features mentors Alexandra Alden, Corazón Mizzi, and Michael Azzopardi, who bring their expertise, experience, and passion to nurture the next generation of musicians.
SongCraft is more than just a programme, it is a platform for young singer-songwriters to develop their artistic voice, gain professional insights, and step confidently into the music industry with the guidance of some of Malta’s finest musical talent.

Michael Azzopardi

Michael Azzopardi started writing, composing and producing Maltese-language music in 2020. His debut EP, Pistola, was released in February 2021 to great acclaim, with the single “Skrejjen” quickly becoming a local favourite. The success of Pistola led Michael to perform his music live in many key local events including Farson’s Beerfest, Earth Garden, Rock the South, Inizjamed and more.
Michael Azzopardi went on to write and direct a trilogy of music videos for three tracks on Pistola; “Fik Ħolqien”, “Skrejjen” and “Taħt il-Kmiem”. This was followed by an animated video for his single “Pjaneta Promettenti” in 2021.
In September 2021, Azzopardi self-organised a local music tour of 10 dates, in various Każini (Band clubs) around the island. Each date featured a guest artist, including Mario Vella from Brikkuni, Mark Abela z-Zizza from Brodu and JOON. Michael went on to collaborate with these artists in his music soon after the tour. Collaboration is at the centre of Azzopardi’s work and continues to define his musical approach.
In 2021 Michael Azzopardi brought together a group of 5 musicians and formed his band: “Michael Azzopardi u l-Klieb tal-Wulf”. The band can bring across a fuller sound, further experimentation and a boisterous live music atmosphere to larger audiences.
Azzopardi spent most of 2022 writing and composing Vaganza, his 13-track debut album. Vaganza, which features collaborations with JOON, Noah Fabri, Mark Abela z-Zizza and more, was released in March 2023.
Azzopardi is currently finalising work on his second full-length album, “Tfal tax-Xemx” which is planned for release in April 2024
Michael spent a total of 8 years in London as a graphic and software designer, returning to Malta to take on a part-time lecturing role at the University of Malta and to focus on music. At that time, Michael also founded Heyday, a community for local creatives. The initiative peaked in 2020 but was paused due to the Covid pandemic.
Michael plays acoustic guitar, keyboards and sings. His focus is to create heartfelt and high-quality local music sung and performed at memorable concerts in beautiful local venues. He is committed to raising his bar and to joining his fellow musicians in the journey of making beautiful local songs for their community.
Every mentor will be assigned two young singer-songwriters, to create a programme with a mix of outstanding melodies and performances
We wish all participants all the success that the world of music can offer.
