Dr. George Hamilton (Edmund Gwenn) is a scientist expert in rockets who decided to take a break from his space and military research. He finds refuge in Calabuch, a Mediterranean village in the coast of Spain that he finds marvellous because the people just live and preserve their sense of humour and friendship. After a variety of occupations, he lands in the town’s pyrotechnical workshop where he would help build a rocket to beat Guardamar in the fireworks competition held for the patron saint’s festivities. The result is so spectacular that a photo of the creators is published in the provincial newspaper, thus revealing the whereabouts of Professor Hamilton, who is called to return to his country.
