CO-MA exhibition

Space C, Spazju Kreattiv St James Cavalier, Castille Place, Valletta

CO-MA is a self-taught Maltese artist who presented his first collection of work at Lily Agius Gallery in November 2021. Devoid of colour, the artist favours a world of black and white—thus avoiding unnecessary distractions and focusing on plays of light and shadow. He uses these elements almost effortlessly to portray textures and surfaces, contrasting a healthy body with one that is decaying or rotting.

Dystopian Garden

Growing from Justin Amrhein’s Mechanical Botanical series, Dystopian Garden is a collection of work that utilises the natural and architectural ambience of the atrium exhibition space. This detailed and comprehensive project embraces the elevated glass ceiling, the enveloping spiral staircase, the commanding elevator shaft, and the living palm tree, all of which have a distinct presence within the atrium. Collectively, these elements evoke an opulent greenhouse or botanical garden, which serves as the conceptual inspiration for the exhibition.
